Daniel’s First Date?

Do you know where your seven year old is right now? I know where ours is. Our seven-year-old son, Daniel, is at the movies right now. With a friend. A friend that’s a girl. I don’t know what to think about that one. I would like to think that this is an innocent trip to the movies, and that he isn’t interested in girls yet, but I am starting to wonder. You see, this isn’t the first time that he has hung out with her. The first time was halloween. Here they are:

Daniel and his friend dressed as Harry and Hermione for halloween.

Yes, Harry and Hermione. I’ve got to say, Daniel made a great Harry. Daniel has been reading the Harry Potter books, and is really into them. He teamed up with Hermione and several other kids from church and school to go trick or treating.

So tonight, he is at the movies with her and another boy from his class (and her mother). Surely, she is just a friend that happens to be a girl, right? This is not Daniel’s first date. Right?

I think they are just friends. After all, Harry and Hermione are never more than friends in the books.

  1. It’s not a date. Anyone who reads the books knows that Hermione ends up with Ron. I wouldn’t worry…of course I don’t have any kids.

If you had a girl, I could bring two guns to your house and we could sit down and clean them while the young man came to take her out, but alas, you only have young men.

    Hope he had fun.

@Lance: you’re right, it wasn’t a date… I just played it up a bit. They had a blast, though. Thanks for the offer to bring guns… I appreciate your willingness to help (at least I think I am more appreciative than disturbed 😉 )

@Karen: I would love to see that picture. I should start a Harry picture collection. I have a nephew and niece who were Harry and Hermione this year.

  2. Thank goodness Harry and Hermione are only friends – don’t know what Nate and Mag would think about dressing up as boyfriend/girlfriend. No, I DO know what they’d think: “EEEWWWW!”

By the way, in our house, no one is allowed to have a boyfriend or girlfriend until they are 16!

16 is a great idea, in theory. I certainly agree to no real dates before then. But even I had a girl friend when I was 11. Mom and Dad knew nothing of it, until she started calling the house 🙂

18! That’s harsh. Wait a second… I smell a double standard. Didn’t mom and dad get you your own phone line well before then?

      1. It’s clear we are 6 years apart! My own phone line??? Not until I was in college and paying for it out of my own student loans!

Yeah, I was thinking we had a kids line of some sort, but the more I think of it, I probably just had a phone in my room and that was enough to say I had my own phone line.

Amazingly enough, I think I remember our numbers from Wesley Chapel and from Crestview.
